Karuppu Vellai Putharchittu in Tamil (கருப்பு வெள்ளை புதர்சிட்டு)
Widespread resident. Male black, with white rump and wing patch; rufous fringes to body in non-breeding and first winter plumages. Female has dark brown upperparts and rufous brown underparts, with rufous orange rump. Mainly cultivation and open country with scattered bushes to tall grass.
