Tachybaptus ruficollis 25-29cm
Chinna Muukkulippaan in Tamil (சின்ன முக்குளிப்பான்)
Widespread resident. Small size, often with puffed up rear end. In breeding plumage, has rufous cheeks and neck sides and yellow patch at base of bill. In non-breeding plumage, has brownish buff cheeks and flanks. Juvenile is similar to non-breeding but has brown stripes across cheeks. Mainly freshwater wetlands.
