Widespread resident and summer visitor. Small size. Blue cheeks with black gorget and golden to rufous coloration to crown. Green tail with elongated central feathers . Juvenile has square ended tail; crown and mantle are green, lacks black gorget, and throat is pale yellowish or bluish green. Open country.
