Widespread resident. Stocky, dark ibis with relatively stout downcurved bill. Has white shoulder patch and reddish legs. Adult has naked black head with red patch on rear crown and nape, and is dark brown with green and purple gloss. Immature dark brown, including feathered head. Marshes, lakes and fields.
