Widespread resident and winter visitor. While lateral undertail coverts and usually white lin along flanks. Breeding adult has red bill with yellow tip and red shield; non breeding adult has duller bill and legs. Juvenile has dull green bill, and is mainly brown. Freshwater wetlands.
